Contributors: I was given a ZOLL monitor competency form which was created by ZOLL. The field training officers participated by answering questions I posed about the test, administering the test, and providing feedback. I performed all research, created the document, and made all revisions.
Problem: The competency form created by ZOLL included many functions not regularly used by field providers. I needed to provide emphasis on the most important functions of the monitor.
Goals:
- Determine exactly what monitor functions needed to be tested
- Create a test that was easy to administer with clear grading guidelines
- Perform the test multiple times, collect feedback, and revise the test as needed.
Solution: I began by meeting with all of the field training officers and asking them what monitor functions needed to be tested and which functions were absolutely essential. Based on these answers, I created a new ZOLL monitor test. For the next several employees to be tested, I instructed the field training officers to perform the new test as written and record any feedback. After getting feedback about the test, I made revisions and posted the test on the field training officer portal as the official test.
Results: The feedback I received from the field training officers was initially mixed. The field training officers noted that it was difficult to grade since it was ambiguous what constituted a failure. I created grading guidelines for the test and the finished test was posted to the field training officer portal for use as the official ZOLL monitor clearance test.
Project: As part of the Field Training and Evaluation Program for Bennington Rescue Squad, new employees must demonstrate their ability to safely operate the cardiac monitor. After new employees had used the cardiac monitor on multiple live patients, they would be evaluated through a final test. I created a written test which would require the employees to be familiar with the basic functions of the ZOLL cardiac monitor with additional emphasis on key monitor functions.
Scope: Initial research, polling of field training officers, creating document, user testing of document, revising document
